Grills simmer and beaches glitter in the first week of September when America recognizes our hard work with the Labor Day holiday weekend. Enhance your 3-day vacation, BBQs or picnics with the apps and websites below.

LuckyPotluck
Potlucks can mean good times for all, unless you have a bag of buns and no hamburger meat to accompany them. Fortunately, the website LuckyPotluck streamlines the process of determining what people will bring to the potluck. Simply register on the site, create a list of the items you’d like your guests to bring, and they can sign-up for any of the them—no registration necessary. This free site is as easy to use as it is on the wallet.

Locavore
Bringing fruit to a Labor Day picnic? Be eco-conscious and find farm fresh food near you with Locavore for iPhone. Built in collaboration with LocalHarvest.org, this app also automatically detects your location, tells you what foods are in season, and provides links to related recipes from Epicurious (reviewed below). Better yet, the app is on sale for 25% off while it’s featured in the iTunes “Go Green” Essentials List.

Epicurious
Spice up the BBQ food with recipes from Epicurious.com. This popular site for foodies combines articles from Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazines, as well as recipes, menus, user reviews, and more. Green tip: Save trees by downloading the mobile app (available for iPhone and Android) instead of printing recipes.

The Weather Channel
Amidst packing clothes, sunscreen and tech gadgets for Labor Day weekend trips, travelers often forget to check the weather at their destination. There’s no excuse, however, not to get forecasts when The Weather Channel has a website, mobile apps, and a TV station. Tune in at home or on-the-go for videos, 10-day forecasts, and more.

Car Care and Roadside Emergencies
The weather is sunny, your food is prepared, and you’re ready to roll. However, if your car breaks down on the road this weekend, would you know how to jump-start the battery or change a tire? Let LitChart’s Car Care and Roadside Emergencies app for iPhone show you how (and maybe save you from paying auto insurance fees). With pictures, guides, and suggested tools for you to keep in your car for emergencies, this app is available for just $0.99. So, fix-it-yourself and keep on movin’.

Have a relaxing Labor Day weekend!
